If y'all betoken the lifecycle controller to ftp.dell.com and so it should pull downward every firmware update that is required. I've used it to update the BIOS, iDRAC, HBA'south and then on.

Make certain that you lot update the life bike controller start. Older versions no longer get updates from Dell in my experience. I think information technology's a signature validation issue with older versions of the life cycle controller.

This^  I'thousand non sure of the verbal version cutoff, but if it is earlier than i.6.x you will take issues updating firmware and BIOS from the Dell ftp site.

If you have an older version of Lifecycle controller, the easiest way to update it, your BIOS, and the rest of the organization, is by using the Server Update Utility as dbeato suggested.  You lot tin run information technology from a bootable USB as well.

If you just desire to update the BIOS, download the "Not-Packaged" version from the Dell website.  Then create a DOS-bootable USB stick, Rufus works well for this, and re-create the BIOS update executable file to the root of the USB.  Boot from the USB and then run the file you lot copied over.

So I got it finally out to the web and was able to meet the listing of updates nevertheless it errors out on each update saying "The updates I'one thousand trying to use are not dell authorized updates"

That is because the firmware version of your Lifecycle Controller and/or iDrac is besides one-time.  At this point the Bootable Update Media is your merely pick.  Dell KB article here.  And Link to Update Repositories hither.

Edit:  When you run the bootable media, practise not get nervous when you lot encounter a lot of fault messages.  This is normal, everything is on the image and if the hardware an update is for is non present on your system it throws an fault message, then moves on.  Only permit it run until it says it is done, takes about an hour.

I'll only add together that if yous're looking to change the NIC settings in UEFI 2.1, y'all will notice that under USC Settings, not Hardware.

I am hesitant to option a NIC to use in the USC setttings for updates because I don't know if this will bear on how these NIC's are setup when the server is back up and running ESXi?  Meaning, if I choose a NIC, assign it an IP to apply for Lifecycle updates, will that mess up whatsoever that NIC is already being used for?  Probably a impaired question just I am non familiar with how this works.  Thanks

If the BIOS version is below 1.4.5 version, I highly recommend you use the Bootable Update Media to resolve the issue. See link below;

"https://www.dell.com/back up/commodity/united states/en/04/sln296511/updating-dell-poweredge-servers-via-bootable-media-iso?lang=en"

This mode of updating is Bone independent and reliable.
All components are updated at one time.
In sum this is the fasted mode to solve issue and exercise updates.
